Infinitree

Overview

The Infinitree is a trans-temporal organism that anchored reality at the Great Eclipse. All Chronobonsai trees merged into it at Year 0, reigniting the stalled sun–moon cycle and ending the Eclipse’s physical lock. Its roots thread through time layers, stabilizing rifts and anomalies. It cannot be controlled or replicated; it represents endurance rather than dominance over time.

Narrative role

Acts as the impartial witness and stabilizer of the setting: the Bonsai Sage arrives alongside its rooting; Michio’s journey is guided by Infinitree-linked shrines and checkpoints. The Timeline Log it keeps is the closest thing to an unbiased history.

Known facts

  • Rooted across fractured timelines at the Eclipse, creating a stable anchor; formed by sacrificing all Chronobonsai into one tree.
  • Maintains an objective Timeline Log of events (contrasts with subjective World Memories).
  • Stabilizes anomalies and temporal rifts but does not erase them.
  • Cannot be replicated or "tamed"; attempts to dominate time lead to corruption.
  • Bonsai Sage is its primary caretaker/interpreter; Chronobonsai shrines echo its function and precede its formation.

Mechanics impact

Guides anomaly resolution rather than time rewind. Checkpoints (e.g., Chronobonsai) are diegetic links to its roots. Access to the Timeline Log gates verification of canon events and powers truth-aligned features.

Source excerpts

2.4 Environmental Interlinks
Ash winds from Kaerugan's volcanic mills drift eastward, darkening the Eresh skies and poisoning
trade routes. Memory Crystals from Varthum carry knowledge across continents. The Infinitree's
roots thread beneath oceans, linking rifts between all lands.

for a single breath of time, the world paused.
At the eclipse’s peak:
● The Infinitree first rooted itself, creating a stable point across fractured timelines.
● The Bonsai Sage arrived, having traveled from a ruined future.
● The last Fire Emperor fell, his line ending with Hitomi’s rebellion being written in flame.

Role in Story
● Michio may discover a shrine here tied to the Infinitree's root history
● Rumored landing point of strange time refugees

Open questions / conflicts

Open: hierarchy between time rifts and anomalies not locked; naming conventions (full names vs given names) not fully locked. Time travel remains non-player-controlled; chat canon overrides docs.
