Summary

The Technogarchs were a pre-Eclipse civilization that attempted to engineer a “Perfect Future” by synchronizing and locking celestial cycles. Their failed intervention caused time to advance without renewal, precipitating the Great Eclipse. Their infrastructure imploded with the Mirror Spire, burying their cities beneath what is now Eresh.

Doctrine: Perfect Future

  • Objective: eliminate uncertainty by stabilizing sun–moon cycles and accelerating time toward an optimized state.
  • Method: massive temporal/astronomical engine (Mirror Spire core) and planetary-scale energy grids.
  • Ethos: control and predictability over natural renewal; viewed time as a system to optimize rather than an ecosystem.

Infrastructure & collapse

  • Mirror Spire core: temporal/energy hub; implosion created a localized black hole.
  • Kiputer predictive engine: Spire-integrated computation that tried to pre-resolve futures; forced the sun/moon lock and amplified feedback loops.
  • Metal cities: dense, energy-hungry arcologies reliant on the Spire; buried alive when the core imploded.
  • Aftermath: residual heat and distorted geology define the Ashen Sands; ruins lie beneath Eresh.

Role in the Great Eclipse

  • Trigger: sun–moon lock and stalled renewal produced the Eclipse’s “time without healing” state.
  • Resolution: ended only when the Infinitree reignited timeflow; Technogarchs erased in the process.
  • Legacy: cautionary tale—control attempts cause systemic collapse; informs Stability Doctrine (“care, not control”).
